Duck’s Farm Shop was founded in 2016 by the Worsley family who moved to the area in 2012, taking over The King’s Arms in the village. Upon a tour of the village on their first day, looking for milk and bread, they realised there was not a shop that served the local community. At the time there was a Garage on the site that Duck’s Farm Shop now stands, owned by the Old family.
About six months after the Worsley’s moved into The Kings Arms pub (just 200 yards from Duck’s), the Garage subsequently shut its doors for the last time. The family just knew it was the perfect opportunity and site for a Farm Shop. They had built up good relationships with local farmers and food producers through their work at the pub, and new the village desperately needed this vital community resource.
However, the Worsley’s also had a clear vision. They didn’t want Duck’s Farm Shop to be like any other in Dorset. They wanted to create a community, supporting local farmers and producers as well as bringing the very best of national and international produce. It was also essential to have a café serving the fresh and tasty food to the local community; somewhere to meet with locals and chat over a coffee and slice of cake.
It is crucial to the Worsley’s that their staff were to be passionate and knowledgeable about the produce sold and take the time to get to know their regulars; suggesting items they know our regulars will just love.
And since 2016 to now… all of the staff at Duck’s are involved in the sourcing of our produce, and we regularly audit our stock to make sure that it is relevant and meets our high standards of quality. You can be sure that when you shop with Duck’s, you will get great advice, personal service and be able to take a slice of Dorset home with you.
