Dorset Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients

All you need for your delicious Dorset Apple Cake recipe!

  • 450g – Self-raising flour
  • 4 tsp – Cinnamon
  • 230g – Butter
  • 230g – Soft light brown sugar
  • 2 – Eggs
  • 150ml – Milk
  • 2 – Cooking apples (peeled, cored and diced)
  • 200g – Sultanas

Dorset Apple Cake Recipe

One of the best reasons to visit Dorset on your staycation is to sample the local delicacy that is the Dorset Apple Cake recipe.  Our chef has kindly agreed to share his coveted recipe with us, and honestly, it’s amazing served freshly from the oven with a dollop of good quality clotted cream from a local farm!  In fact, this recipe is SO good, you can often find this cake being sold in our café!

Makes one cake that serves between 8 – 12 (depending on how big a slice you cut!).  Cooking time 40 – 45 minutes.

  1. Mix the flour, butter, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  3. Line one large cake tin and pour in the batter. Sprinkle the top with a little Demerara sugar.
  4. Cook at about 160 degrees Celsius for 40-45 minutes, then check by placing a skewer in the middle to see if it comes out dry.
  5. Serve with a large dollop of clotted cream!
